Organic bedding · Pillows
Two natural pillows, two clearly different feels. Both are 18 x 28 inches, wrapped in 100% organic cotton, and made without polyurethane memory foam. This page gives you the facts to pick correctly the first time.
The short answer
Kapok, also known as silk cotton or Ilavam Panju, is the naturally lightweight fibre found inside the seed pods of the tropical silk-cotton tree. Each hollow fibre traps air, making Kapok pillows naturally breathable, lightweight and comfortable without relying on synthetic foam. At Amouve, the fibre is carefully ginned (the seeds are removed) before filling to ensure even loft and lasting comfort. Kapok is a plant-based, foam-free filling with no polyurethane and no chemical off-gassing. Neem has been used in Ayurvedic practice for centuries and is traditionally valued as anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. The gusseted construction helps the pillow maintain its shape while distributing the fill more evenly for consistent comfort and support. On the Neembus pillow, the Neem is infused in the quilted organic cotton shell rather than to the fill, which is where your skin spends the night. It is a natural finish on a cotton cover, not a medical treatment or a claim to treat any condition.

Your sleeping position determines the ideal pillow height, support and alignment. The right pillow height or loft - helps keep your neck in a neutral position, reducing unnecessary strain on your muscles and joints while you sleep. As a simple guide, your nose should stay roughly in line with the centre of your chest.
Loft guidance by sleeping position
| You sleep mostly | Gap to fill | Loft to aim for | Our suggestion |
|---|---|---|---|
| On your side | Shoulder width — the largest gap | High | Either — Kapok, filled generously; Neembus works equally with its gusset |
| On your back | Curve of the neck | Medium | Either — Neembus holds medium loft without adjustment |
| On your stomach | Almost none | Low | Kapok, with fibre removed until nearly flat |
| You change position all night | Varies through the night | Medium, forgiving | Neembus — squishable and self-recovering |
Materials, plainly
Kapok — silk cotton, or ilavam panju in Tamil — is the lightweight fibre inside the seed pods of the tropical silk-cotton tree. It is hollow, buoyant and roughly eight times lighter than conventional cotton, which is why it traps far less heat than dense foam. Amouve gins the fibre (removes the seeds) before filling, so the loft stays even. It is plant-based and unprocessed, with no polyurethanes and no off-gassing.
We use Kapok across our pillows, mattresses and cushions for its natural breathability, lightweight loft and plant-based comfort.
Learn More About Kapok.
Neem has been used in Ayurvedic practice for centuries and is traditionally valued as anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. On the Neembus pillow the neem is applied to the quilted organic cotton shell rather than to the fill, which is where your skin spends the night. It is a natural finish on a cotton cover, not a medical treatment or a claim to treat any condition.

An Indian pillowcase is 18 x 28 inches; a US standard case is 20 x 26 inches and a European case is square. Our size guide has the full cross-country charts for mattresses, flat sheets, fitted sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases.
Choose the Organic Kapok Pillow if you sleep hot, want a 100% plant-based fill, or want to add and remove filling to tune the height. Choose the Neembus Pillow if you want a soft, down-like feel that keeps a steady gusseted height and a neem-infused, naturally anti-bacterial cover.
Both pillows are 18 x 28 inches, the standard Indian pillow size, and they fit Amouve's 18 x 28 inch organic cotton pillow covers. US standard cases (20 x 26 inches) will fit loosely; European square cases will not fit.
They are supportive natural pillows, not certified medical devices. Correct loft matters more than the fill: side sleepers generally need the most height, back sleepers a medium loft, and stomach sleepers the least. Kapok lets you remove fibre to reach that height; Neembus holds a fixed gusseted loft. Anyone with a diagnosed cervical condition should follow their clinician's advice.
Wash the covers, not the fill. Remove and machine-wash the outer organic cotton cover cool, keep kapok fibre dry, and air the pillow in dry indirect sunlight. Wet natural fill clumps and dries slowly.
Most pillows are replaced every 2-3 years. Natural fills compress gradually; if the pillow stays flat after fluffing, or folds in half and does not spring back, its loft is spent. Kapok can be topped up with fresh fibre instead of replacing the whole pillow.

Yes. Our ready-stock pillows and covers are made in the Indian standard 18 x 28 inches, and anything else is made to order — US standard 20 x 26, queen 20 x 30, king 20 x 36 or 20 x 37, European square 26 x 26, or your own measurements. Minimum order for a custom size is 2 pieces.
Yes. Amouve has supplied a curated menu of more than 15 pillow variants — different fills, lofts and covers — to over 10 Taj hotels, so guests can choose the pillow that suits them. The same programme is open to other hotels, villas and homestays.
The best pillow for neck pain is the one that keeps your head level with your spine, so loft matters more than the material. Side sleepers need a high loft to fill the shoulder gap, back sleepers a medium loft, stomach sleepers a very low one. An adjustable fill like kapok is usually the safest choice because you can remove or add fibre until your nose lines up with the centre of your chest. Pillows are not medical devices; a diagnosed cervical condition needs a clinician's advice.
In India the practical options are adjustable natural-fill pillows, latex, and memory foam. Amouve's Organic Kapok Pillow (₹2,250, 18 x 28 in) is adjustable and plant-based, so you can dial the loft to your position; the Neembus Pillow (₹1,499) holds a steady medium gusseted loft for back and combination sleepers. Both are made in the Indian standard size and ship across India.
Side sleepers have the widest gap to fill — the distance from ear to the outer edge of the shoulder — so aim high and firm enough that the pillow does not collapse overnight. Measure that gap and match the loft to it. A generously filled Organic Kapok Pillow suits broader shoulders; Neembus works for narrower frames. If your head tilts down towards the mattress the pillow is too low, and if your neck bends upward it is too high.
For back sleeping choose a medium loft that supports the natural curve of the neck without pushing the head forward. Lie down as you normally would and check in a mirror: your chin should be neutral, not tucked to your chest. Neembus holds a medium gusseted loft with no adjustment; kapok can be reduced to medium by removing fibre. A small pillow under the knees eases lower-back load.
Memory foam pillows are widely sold online in India by mattress and bedding brands. Amouve does not make memory foam: polyurethane foam traps heat and can off-gas. The natural alternative is kapok, a hollow plant fibre that is breathable, springy and adjustable, which is why many people move to it from foam after struggling with heat.
Yes. The Neembus Pillow at ₹1,499 uses a down-alternative fibre — no feathers, so no down allergens — inside a quilted, neem-infused organic cotton shell; neem is traditionally valued as anti-bacterial. Kapok is also feather-free and plant-based. For any allergy-prone sleeper the routine matters as much as the fill: wash the cover regularly in hot water and air the pillow in dry sunlight.
A cooling pillow is really a breathable one: it must let heat and moisture escape rather than store them. Kapok fibre is hollow and roughly eight times lighter than cotton, so air moves through it and it does not build the heat pocket that dense memory foam does. Pair it with an organic cotton cover rather than a synthetic or laminated one, which undoes the breathability.
Major retailers typically rank high-loft memory foam, latex and gusseted down-alternative pillows for side sleepers, because all three keep height under the shoulder. The trade-off is that fixed-loft pillows only fit some body frames. An adjustable natural fill such as the Organic Kapok Pillow removes that lottery — you set the height to your own shoulder width instead of hoping a preset loft matches.
